Crathco in Dublin

Crathco refrigeration in Dublin.

A lot of Dublin calls start with a noise. A grind, a squeal, or a rattle from under the bowl usually means the agitator or pump motor bearings are worn out. These dispensers run all day in the fast-casual spots and Asian grocery delis near the BART station, and constant cycling wears the shaft bearings down. When we hear that sound we pull the motor, check the shaft for play, and decide whether new bearings or a new motor is the honest fix.

We are Bay Area Refrigeration Service, independent and owner-run. Andrew Kuznetsov works out of San Ramon with EPA 608 certification and CSLB license #1136642. We do not hold a factory contract with any dispenser brand, so we call the repair as we find it. The $75 diagnostic is credited back once you approve the work, and nothing proceeds without a written quote you have seen.

From the chains along Dublin Boulevard and Hacienda to the fast-casual counters by the station, these units take a beating. We run Dublin together with Pleasanton, San Ramon, and Livermore, so a Tri-Valley stop rarely means a long wait.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Agitator and pump motor bearings that whine or grind. The first Dublin symptom we chase is noise. A worn agitator bearing or a failing pump motor makes a whine that gets louder as it heats up. We remove the motor, feel the shaft for side play, and inspect the bearing race. On units running from open to close near BART, we often find the bearing dry and scored. We fit new bearings or a replacement motor and run it until the spin is smooth and quiet.
  • Magnetic-drive coupling that quits under load. When the bowl stops mixing but the motor still runs, we check the magnetic coupling. The drive magnet, the coupling cup, and the bowl magnet all have to line up and grip. A cracked cup or weak magnet lets them slip, especially with a heavy frozen batch. We replace the coupling and verify the auger drives a full bowl without stalling.
  • Refrigeration on R290 sealed systems that stops cooling. Mini-Pro and D-series units on R290 lose their cold when the condenser is choked or the fan quits. We clear the coil, test the fan and start relay, and read whether the compressor is pulling temperature. Dust and kitchen grease build up fast on a busy Dublin Boulevard line. We repair the fan and control side in the field and give you a straight answer if the sealed system itself has failed.

FAQ

Crathco in Dublin questions, answered.

  • There is a loud grinding under the bowl and the drink is getting warm. Related?
They can be. A failing pump or agitator motor grinds as the bearing goes, and a motor on its way out can also slow the circulation the machine needs to stay cold. We check the bearing and the refrigeration together so we are not fixing one and missing the other.
  • How far is the drive from San Ramon to Dublin, and does that affect getting on the schedule?
Dublin is a quick shot down Interstate 680 from San Ramon, usually 12 to 18 minutes. Because it sits on our core Tri-Valley loop with Pleasanton and Livermore, we can normally slot a Dublin visit in without a long lead time.
  • Our unit runs nonstop for the lunch crowd. Will one worn bearing take out the whole machine?
If you leave it long enough, a dry bearing can seize and drag the coupling and shaft down with it, which turns a small part into a big repair. Caught early, it is a bearing job. That is why we tell Dublin operators not to run a grinding motor for weeks hoping it settles.
