Crathco in Concord
Crathco refrigeration in Concord.
The call we field most from Concord kitchens starts the same way: the Crathco bowl is running but the drink never gets cold, or one side freezes into a slushy brick while the other stays warm. That points at the refrigeration side. Cold-plate units and the R290 sealed systems inside many D-series and FROZEN models lose their punch when a condenser fan stalls, a relay sticks, or the charge leaks down. We read the suction line, check the fan, and confirm whether the compressor is actually pulling temperature before we quote anything.
Bay Area Refrigeration Service is an independent shop run by Andrew Kuznetsov out of San Ramon. We are EPA 608 certified and licensed under CSLB #1136642. We are not a brand's warranty contractor, so what we tell you is straight. The $75 diagnostic is waived when you approve the repair, and you get a written quote before any wrench turns.
We keep a route through central Contra Costa, so a taqueria on Monument Boulevard, a bar off Todos Santos Plaza, or a counter inside Sunvalley all sit on the same loop. We also cover Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, and Martinez on the same trips.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Cold-plate and R290 refrigeration that will not hold temperature. When a Concord Crathco pours warm or freezes solid on one side, we start at the sealed system. On R290 propane units we check the condenser fan, the start relay, and the airflow behind the machine, since a grease-caked coil on a busy Monument Boulevard line is a common cause. If the compressor runs but the plate never chills, we test the charge and look for a leak. We repair the fan, relay, and thermostat side in the field, and we tell you plainly when a sealed-system fault makes replacement the smarter money.
- Magnetic-drive coupling that slips. The auger spins through a magnet, not a shaft that passes into the bowl, so when the product stops turning the coupling is the first suspect. We inspect the drive magnet, the coupling cup, and the motor for a worn or cracked link. A slipping coupling often shows up as a bowl that mixes slowly or stalls under a thick frozen load. We swap the coupling and confirm the auger turns cleanly under a full bowl before we leave.
- Bowl gaskets and shaft seals that seep. A puddle under the drip tray usually traces back to a hardened bowl gasket or a dry shaft seal. On Crathco bubbler and spray heads the O-rings dry out and crack after months of daily wash cycles. We pull the bowl, replace the gasket set and seals, and grease them with food-safe lubricant so the fit holds. Then we run the unit to make sure the leak is gone and the bowl seats flush.

FAQ
Crathco in Concord questions, answered.
-
My Crathco freezes solid on the left bowl and stays liquid on the right. Same machine, what gives?
That split is almost always the refrigeration control or the expansion side for that one bowl, not the whole compressor. Twin-bowl units share a cold plate but split the flow, so one circuit can over-freeze while the other loses its cold. We test each side separately and adjust or repair the failing circuit rather than guessing. -
How long does it take you to reach Concord from San Ramon?
It is a straight run up Interstate 680 through Walnut Creek, usually around 25 to 35 minutes outside of commute hours. We batch Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Martinez stops together, so if you call early we can often fold you into that day's north loop. -
Do I need to unplug the dispenser before you arrive?
Leave it running if it is safe to do so. We would rather see the fault live, since a warm bowl or a slushy freeze tells us more than a cold unit that has been off for hours. If it is leaking onto an outlet or tripping a breaker, then yes, cut the power and we will take it from there.
