What breaks. What we fix.
Crathco beverage dispenser repair, done by an independent shop
Crathco builds cold and frozen beverage dispensers for restaurants, convenience stores, cafes, and concession stands (Grindmaster and Welbilt sit behind the brand, and some units are built by Electrolux Professional). We service the cold and frozen lines, the twin-tank bubbler and spray models, and the refrigerated R290 units. When a dispenser goes down on a hot afternoon you lose sales by the hour, so we work to diagnose it on the first visit and get it back online the same day when parts allow.
Refrigeration faults are the biggest bucket. A dispenser that runs but will not cool, product going warm in the tank, or a unit that freezes solid all point to the sealed system or the controls. We test the refrigeration side, check the compressor and the cold plate, and trace the fault before quoting. Many of these dispensers use an R290 (propane) sealed system, which is efficient but flammable, so refrigerant work has to be done by someone set up for it. Sealed-system and refrigerant work is licensed under CSLB #1136642.
The other common calls are the mechanical ones: worn magnetic drive couplings that stop the auger, agitator and pump motors that give out after years of duty, and the gaskets, shaft seals, and O-rings that let product weep into the base. We replace the worn parts, clean up the drive path, and check the seals while we are in there.
One honest note on warranty. Some newer refrigerated dispensers are still under factory coverage, and a few model runs have had known compressor bad-batches. If we diagnose a failure that the manufacturer should cover, we will tell you and point you to the warranty instead of selling you the part. We would rather give you a straight diagnosis than bill for work a warranty should pay for.
From a recent job
We diagnosed a no-cooling fault on a Crathco cold beverage dispenser at a Millbrae restaurant and traced it to a failed R290 compressor from a known manufacturer bad-batch, so the unit went back under factory warranty instead of a paid repair. A few photos from that visit:
