What we do. What we fix.

What a walk-in repair actually looks like

When a walk-in stops holding temp, you’re usually staring at one of a handful of failures. The condensing unit short-cycles or won’t kick on. The evaporator coil ices over and the fans stall behind a block of frost. The defrost timer or termination thermostat quits and the freezer climbs into the danger zone overnight. Or there’s a slow refrigerant leak somewhere in the line set, and the box just keeps losing ground. We diagnose to the real failure before we order a single part. No parts-swap-and-hope.

The diagnostic is $75, waived when we do the repair. You get a written quote with parts and labor broken out before we touch anything. Every box gets bench-checked before we close out: we pull the box down to setpoint, watch a full defrost cycle complete, and leak-check the sealed system if we opened it.

The truck carries what fails most weeks. Evaporator and condenser fan motors, defrost heaters and termination thermostats, contactors and start components, door gaskets and heater wire, pressure controls, and a calibrated digital manifold with a recovery machine and a charging scale. We don’t eyeball a charge. We recover, evacuate, and weigh it back in.

Sealed-system work, in-house

A lot of shops won’t touch the sealed system on a walk-in. It takes EPA certification and the right tools to do it right, so they tape over the leak and walk. We hold EPA Section 608 (#1279674151528) for refrigerant recovery and handling, and we’re HC(A3)/R290 hydrocarbon-trained through Mainstream Engineering, which matters as more units ship on R290. We pressurize with nitrogen, find the leak, fix the failed section instead of the first spot that bubbles, then evacuate and weigh in a fresh charge.

Common failures, ballpark cost

SymptomLikely causeTypical repair
Box warming, coil iced solidFailed defrost heater or term thermostat$250 – $450

Numbers are ballparks for the common cases. You get the real figure in writing after we diagnose. Compressor and condensing-unit replacements run higher, and we’ll lay out repair-versus-replace honestly when a box is past saving.

Brands and what to expect

We service the commercial names you actually run: True, Traulsen, Turbo Air, Beverage-Air, Continental, Delfield, Hoshizaki and Manitowoc walk-ins and condensing units. We’re Manitowoc-certified and factory-trained, certified to service their equipment, not a sales dealer. On every other brand we work as an independent shop with no factory-authorization claims. Same $75 diagnostic, same written quote, same warranty either way.

If your ice machine is going down at the same time, that’s our wheelhouse too. We’re dispatched from San Ramon, 7AM to 7PM, seven days, and the after-hours emergency line is the same number, (925) 999-4095. We also run sister shops for the rest of the kitchen: Bay Area HVAC Service (bayareahvacservice.com) for rooftop and HVAC, and Bay Area Refrigeration Service (bayarearefrigerationservice.com) for espresso and brewing gear. All under ADRIUM Service Solutions (adriumservice.com).
