U-Line in Berkeley
U-Line refrigeration in Berkeley.
U-Line shows up in the Berkeley Hills and North Berkeley remodels, built into kitchen islands and butler's pantries with tight cabinetry tolerances. Pull the unit the wrong way and you split the surround. We know how these are framed, so it comes out and goes back clean.
Berkeley's municipal water runs softer than the deeper East Bay wells, but undercounter ice makers still scale over time and the dual-zone wine units carry their own quirks. We stock 2000 and 3000 series parts on the truck, so most calls finish the first visit.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Wine reserve cycling nonstop. Wine reserve compressors barely rest holding two set points, and the condenser coil packs with dust faster than a regular fridge. The common North Berkeley call is one zone holding and the other creeping. Most of the time it's a clogged coil plus a tired condenser-fan motor, and the compressor's still good if we catch it early.
- Undercounter ice maker no ice. Berkeley's softer water scales slower, but a unit that's never been descaled still chokes. More often the factory braided inlet line has kinked against the cabinet wall. We refit a longer line, confirm the fill cycle, and check the drain pump on gravity-drain conversions.
- Damper actuator on dual-zone units. When both zones suddenly read the same temperature on a 2218 or 3036, the DC damper actuator has usually failed open. We swap it, recalibrate the temp sensors, and watch the split hold over a full 24-hour run before we call it done.

FAQ
U-Line in Berkeley questions, answered.
-
Do you work on U-Line in the Berkeley Hills?
Yes. We service U-Line wine captains, beverage centers, and undercounter ice and freezers across North Berkeley and the hills, dispatched from San Ramon over Highway 24. -
My wine unit holds the top zone but the bottom runs warm. Fixable?
Usually, and usually without a new compressor. That pattern is most often a clogged condenser coil plus a worn condenser-fan motor. We clean, swap the motor, and confirm both zones hold. -
How much to diagnose?
The diagnostic is $75, waived when you go ahead with the repair, and you get a written quote before any work. We service U-Line as an independent shop, no factory-authorization claim.
